Baby Names: What's in a name?
The name you choose for your child can influence what sort of person they become...
More than you might think, if the results of a new US study are anything to go by. Scientists have discovered that the “femininity” of the name given to a daughter heavily influences how people treat her, what sort of person she becomes and may even decide what career she chooses.
The study shows that those girls christened “Isabella” or “Anna” are not likely to study science because their “more feminine” first names means they are not encouraged to do so. David Figlio, professor of economics at the University of Florida, compiled the study of 55,000 children.
He warned parents to think twice about giving their daughter certain names as he said preconceptions could have huge implications for later life.
